In recent years, the telecommunication industry has put more and more focus on the research on next generation networks, the international standards organizations' work plays the most important part in promoting the development of next generation network, and meanwhile the national standards organizations always make their efforts to keep pace with them and launch the standards good for national circumstance. The next generation network is a broad term. In this paper, the author have researched on PON access to NGN, in this place "PON" is regarded as the access network technology of NGN and "NGN" is referring in particular to NGN core networks which uses soft switching and IMS as its core control technologies. This paper introduces PON and put focus on the structure of PON,the function characteristics of PON and the advantage of PON access to NGN.This paper also introduces soft switching and IMS and puts focus on the function characteristics of the network elements, and it also introduces two evolution method from soft switching to IMS. There are many application mode of PON access to NGN, but this paper put focus on one mode in which PON used SIP-IAD module embedded in ONU to access the IMS network.The SIP protocol process within this mode is the most important part,and is also the reseach priority of this paper. At last the author chooses the SIP submodule in IAD module to design according to his usual research and uses oSIP protocol stack to realize the software part of the submodule.
