Qualitative Research On China's Field Spectator Violence Web News Contents

Along with development of China's competitive sports, there are more and more athletic competitions of all kinds and all levels, particularly with increasing deepening of professionalization of sports items like football, basketball and volleyball, field spectator violence has become a sport social issue that is worth considering and has aroused concern of governmental departments, experts and scholars. Researches of some scholars have found that media report of field spectator violence has certain impacts on generation of violent behavior, the media has never made correct report about the field spectator violence issue. This behavior of managed reporting that follows one's will not only will produce undesirable social response, but also will enlarge and aggravate the problems, and become the "accomplice" of field violence events. However, if the media reporting is handled properly, its negative impacts can be reduced. The paper has researched relevant issues about China's field spectator violence web news, discussed its classification, features, impacts on audience, and the research methods for field spectator violence web news. It also has used the methods of qualitative research to systematically analyze the focal event about "Beijing-Tianjin Football Fans Violence Event" occurred during 2009 Chinese Super League Football Match reported in three major portals of Sohu, Sina and Netease. The research results show:(1) The field spectator violence web news is defined as "News information disseminated on Internet about spectators causing physical, metal or property damage, hindering normal proceeding of match, organization and management, and causing some consequences by means of fighting, insulting, damaging or other means inside and outside the field."(2) Judged from summary of statistical data and article analysis, there were agenda settings in the report of "Beijing-Tianjin Football Fans Violence Event" in three major portals of Sohu, Sina and Netease, and there were several small agenda settings in "Beijing-Tianjin Football Fans Violence Event" agenda. (3) There were differentiation tendency in the report of "Beijing-Tianjin Football Fans Violence Event" in three major portals. There were obvious differences in the arrangement of report quantities in each website. There were also differences in semantic tropism and evaluation attitude.(4) Most reports of "Beijing-Tianjin Football Fans Violence Event" in the three major portals were extracted from different newspapers. The report in Sina Sports was even entirely quoted from other reports, and the viewpoint for selecting report was also very single.(5) The concluded reporting strategies of field spectator violence web news is:reporting strategies of media practitioner, establishing network opinion guiding mechanism and strengthening media literacy education for audience.
