In this case, users need one kind of more effective search engine to keep pace with their need, which is third generation search engine.The third gerneration search engine matches on consept instead of key words. Bisides the exactly key words ,it can also return the superordinate or subordinate concept as well as the synonym of the searching word. So the results can be more relevant and accurate. Now, there are aready appearing some excellent third gerneration search engines, but the study on them are still unsystematic.This paper comprehensively analyses the related theories, the present situation, and the future trend of the thirdgeneration search engine by using methods like direct survey, statistical analysis, case analysis and so on. After that it chooses Wolfram Alpha as an example to empirically analyse. Finally, the paper gives the trends of the third generation search engine .
