As a new type of self-organization, self-configuring and a multi-hop broadband wireless network, Wireless Mesh Network has higher rate, easier networking mode, lower cost, more stable performance and other advantages. It is able to solve a variety of interconnection between heterogeneous wireless networks. Routing protocol is one of the most critical technologies for Wireless Mesh Network, so a high-quality routing is able to ensure that the network can work correctly. Therefore, it is very important to research and develop a more suitable routing protocol for Wireless Mesh Network both in the theory and applications.First, the routing protocols of Active Routing and Passive Routing have been researched, and a simulation analysis on these two types of routing protocols (DSDV, DSR and AODV) has been finished by NS-2.33 in stationary and mobile environment respectively. Then, on the basis of AODV, this paper presents a routing protocol NTAODV, in which changing of nodes'network topology are considered. In NTAOD V, the node with a stable topology is selected to establish a more reliable and stronger vitality routing link by introducing inhibitory factor. In NTAODV, a new routing criteria and a new right-valued function are designed. The new routing criteria take into account of routing hops, the changing of nodes'network topology and inhibiting factor. And two kinds of linear and exponential forms of right-valued functions are designed. Then, the basic structure and realization of NTAODV are studied. The NTAODV is realized by modifying and re-compiling the source code for AODV in NS-2.33. A simulation of NTAODV is done in the different inhibitory factor and different speed of nodes. The simulation process is consisted by two parts. The first part is to analyze the impact of inhibitory factor on network performance. The ideal value of inhibitory factor can be obtained by the simulation results. The second part is to analyze the impact of nodes'speed on network performance. It shows that the improved routing protocol of NTAODV has a significant improvement on network's Packet Delivery Fraction and Average end-to-end Delay, especially in the network environment with the topology of nodes changing frequently.
