With market economy development and economic system reform, system of China publishing industry is constantly reforming, industrial attribute of publishing is getting more and more emphasis, press is paying more attention to economical benefits than social benefits of books. Meanwhile with the influence of western consumerism culture, ideas and life styles of our readers have changed, philosophy of book consumption has changed too. Problems of culture industry criticized by western culture researchers appeared in China publishing industry with these two factors interaction and influence.The article aims at analyzing problems of our publishing in new period through combining status and characteristics of current publishing development and theory of western culture industry and consumerism, and proposing solutions to our publishing development from the points of press and publishing supervisor departments.
