Theodore Harold White, as the stationing journalist of Time in China, reported on Chinese affairs in large amounts during the War of Resistance Against Japan. From arriving in Chongqing of China at the beginning of 1939 to leaving China in 1945, Theodore Harold White, a western journalist holding liberalism experienced great transition, including his political orientation and understanding of China, which were reflected in his news reports evidently. This paper mainly summarizes these reports and analyzes the characteristics of his reports on China, thereby investigating whether his reports had influence on the War of Resistance Against Japan and the relationship between China and America. There are four chapters in this paper, aiming at seeking after this respect.Chapterl is a brief introduction to the experiences of Theodore Harold White. What unique activity space and characteristics of social status had been rendered to Theodore Harold White by his family background and growing-up envioment is studied. What brands of the times had been marked by his social envioment and times background, as well as what influence these brands had on his subsequent life experience and role as a journalist are discussed from macro perspectives. Chapter2 emphasizes on his reports during Theodore Harold White's stationing in China. Firstly, the two stages of his news reports and the distinct characteristics of every stage are discussed in longitudinal direction. Furthermore, the transition from suporting the Chinese Kuomintang blindly in his early days in China to reporting Chinese affairs more objectively is as well explored. Afterwards, several representative incidents are selected to analyze his news reports, trying to give a all-round analysis. Theodore Harold White is a talented journalist. In his reports on China, there are quite a few untrue reports, but also many objective reports and remarks reflecting the social situations at that times. This chapter mainly views and evaluates these reports and his experience in China objectively and justly.The key points of chapter3 is what important influence his reports on China had, especially influence on the relationship between China and America. Theodore Harold White as a stationing journalist of Time in China, had great impacts in America. Whether his news reports along with his opinion and attitudes towards Chinese affairs had any influence on the War of Resistance Against Japan, the understanding of people all over the world, the international image of China, and American policy towards China is the very question this chapter tries to deal with.The conclusion part hopes to, via the investigation of the news reports philosophy of Theodore Harold White as a stationing journalist of America in China, further explore how the stationing journalists of our country should preserve the interests of country and readers through their reports, how to lead readers to view the world in a proper way. What experiences and lessons current stationing journalist should learn from the story of Theodore Harold White in China are explored.
