In the recent years, due to the development of society and economy, the demand on video monitoring is increasing. As an important part of the network video monitoring products, Video server has been widely applied. The majority of network video monitoring systems are based on wired networks or local-area wireless networks. This has caused a lot of limitations, such as the place where have not been covered by wired networks and the moving objects will not be monitored. As the development of the third generation mobile communication technology, and the operator's support of 3G standards, the video monitoring based on wide-area wireless networks will be possible to establish.This paper designed a prototype of 3G video server based on Hi3510 communication media processor and MC703 CDMA EV-DO wireless module.Completed for the following work:Proposed the hardware design of 3G module board based on MC703, achieved the hardware design on each module, completed the circuit schematic diagram, analyzed the related electrical characteristics and the EMC problems. The PCB design strategies were discussed, as well as the design method of the antenna part.Achieved the building of video server development environment. Especially configured the HiBoot(Bootloader) with regard to the specific peripheral chips, modify the related hardware driver code in the corresponding directory, and then transplanted the HiBoot. Also achieved customization, configuration, compile and transplantation of the kernel and root file system.About the software part of the video server, achieved the functionality of video input, video coding, video control, video output and video wireless transmission. Configured the MC703 wireless module drivers for Linux in embedded systems and for Windows XP. After the configuration of PPP dial-up procedures, cross-compiling and transplantation, the dial-up internet accessing had been achieved.Finally, a joint test had been taken on the entire system of hardware and software, as can be seen from the result, the 3G video server implemented the basic functions, such as video processing and wireless transmission. However, because of the small bandwidth and the wireless environment is not ideal, the actual effect is not very good, delay is relatively large.The 3G video server prototype based on Hi3510, has the advantages of simple operation, no geographical limitations of monitoring operations, low cost, etc. Contains more economic value and social value.
