With the popularization of the development of information technology, Internet is gradually changing people's ways of thinking and communication, as a new information communication Platform. Traditional multimedia playback mode can not meet the requirement of most people, and people can view their favorite programs via Video-on-Demand on the network at any time. The breakthrough of the traditional way of multimedia broadcast made the new changing of people's life and working. Video-on-Demand has been one of the most interesting services on the Internet.The traditional Video-on-Demand system based on C/S structure caused the high loads on video servers, while P2P technology can remove some of the load from the server by technique of distribution nodes. So P2P technology is widely used in large-scale Video-on-Demand service in recent years. The extendibility of P2P technology is that the more peers in the network, the stronger the system serves. We can imagine the robustness of P2P network, when some peer in the P2P network runs out because of some reasons, and the system can adjust automatically and reallocate the service peers. It can ensure the connectivity of other peers, and have no influence no the service ability of the system. The invulnerability and high fault-tolerance are both the advantages in the P2P network. It made the research on the P2P VOD be determined to have. P2P Video-on-Demand system makes the bandwidth been used efficiently, and ensures the quality of playing.This paper gives some researches and system analysis on the current study of Video-on-Demand. P2P technology and streaming Video-on-Demand system was introduced in detail, based on this, we proposed this Video-on-Demand system integrated with these two kinds of technologies. Based on the different functions of every part, the system is divided into many modules, and then we made design and implement in detail to every modules.In addition, the paper analyses some piece selection algorithms used in streaming media system previously. Aim to the characteristics of these piece selection algorithms, we made some improvement and then proposed an improved piece selection algorithm named RF-IPS algorithm. The idea and procedure of design are both introduced and design in detail. Finally the experiment is simulated based on these piece selection algorithms and the result is analyzed and compared, from which the P2P VOD system based on RF-IPS algorithm can be proved feasible and stabile by data.
