As the vehicle safety incidents continue to occur, the demand of vehicle safety performance detecting is growing, while establishing detection lines in large and medium cities has a relatively high cost. So research and development of an economical and practical, safe and reliable stand-alone instrument, which is used for detecting vehicle safety performance has become a research hotspot. A software system of stand-alone instrument, which is a set of detecting and information management in one vehicle safety performance detecting software system, was studied and designed in this paper.Throughout the current popular vehicle safety detecting systems, there are mainly two models: C/S and B/S model. After analyzing the advantage and disadvantage of these two models, a vehicle safety performance detecting management system using three-tier architecture based on C/S model was proposed in this paper, and then the development process of recording system and the detecting system were introduced in detail. In addition, the computer network communications model, the serial communication model, the database model and other key technologies which are used in this paper were also been studied and designed. The network communication model of recording system was designed by using the class CSocket of MFC, which contribute to the flexibility and reliability of the network communications model. The serial communication was developed by using asynchronous IO mechanism and multithread technology, which improve the real-time performance of the system. The database model using ADO(ActiveX Data Object) database access technology was developed, and the unified database access interface was designed, which simplifies the system development and improves the system performance. In order to make the system more user-friendly, the seven-segment LED display control showing the detecting results and the histogram display control displaying the statistical result were specifically designed for the system. The system is based on Windows operating system, developed by Visual C + + and achieved by using object-oriented programming ideas.The system has been testing shows that the system, which has a simple operation, a good safety and a high real-time performance, meets the requirement of the design. Besides, the computer of every station is eliminated, which save a lot of cost, so the system has a high practical value.
