With the persistent progress of mobile communication and Internet, location based services become conceivable. Products related to it will be one of the primary value-added services which are supplied by network operators to users. At present, location based technology and services are studied and developed at home and abroad, and many projects are brought forward. GPS(Global Positioning System) and MPS(Mobile Positioning System) are two kinds of the positioning technologies by general used. GPS has held a majority of market by right of its high-precision positioning. However, MPS adopts the technology of cell positioning algorithm with lower complexity, so it has cheap cost, good cover, fast response time, two-wayly positioning and so on. These advantages make MPS take the fancy of the public in the fields of low-precision positioning. In most of the location-based scheme at present, the tracking system is the indispensable important component. The development of the technology of the computer impels the application system to be transformed into browser/server (B/S) with N layer of structure from initial host computer system, client/server(C/S). Thus have become the focus that studies and uses of the industry at present on the basis of Web built up and stepped the platform, security, open tracking system. Direct against the development of B/S mode application system, Sun Microsystem Inc. provides J2EE platform. J2EE is an architecture which is used to simplify the complications of development, deployment and management of enterprise solutions. J2EE architecture supplies middle-tier integrated framework to satisfy the requirement which needs a little cost but high availability, high reliability and extensibility. This thesis presents J2EE-based MPS mobile tracking system. My design partitions the application in two basic conceptual ways: multi-tier architecture and traditional modular decomposition. These make the whole system become a multi-tier component system, loose couple horizontally and vertically, provide security, flexibility, testability and extensibility. We make well use of MPS's good qualities to supply nicer performance to the clients of location-based services. This thesis consists of three parts. The first part introduces the concept and trend of mobile positioning system. The second part introduces the concept, development and intention of MPS; development of application architecture; concept...
