Digital Array Radar (DAR) is a fully digitized array radar in which digital beamforming technique is used in transmitting and receiving. DAR has advantages in detecting complex target, anti-jamming, adapting to complex terrain environment, high precision of detecting and flexibility of digital processing. But DAR has many channels, which will give rise to inconsistency in amplitude and phase unavoidably. The mismatch channels will seriously affect the performance of DAR, methods must be investigated to equalize the mismatch channels. The background and research status quo of channel equalization are present in the paper firstly, several typical channel mismatch models are introduced in detail and the approaches to equalize the narrow-band and wide-band signal are given followed. In order to get an exact calibration, the adaptive channel equalization is required because the channel characteristic may change with the time and environment. The factors of affecting equalization performance are analyzed next and some conclusions are drawn. The simulations of the effect of amplitude mismatch, phase mismatch and the SNR to digital beamforming's sidelobe and beam direction are given. The influence of channel mismatch to beamforming can be eliminated by channel equalization. The equalization to mismatch channel is given and the amplitude and phase error can decreased to a acceptable level after equalization.
