As the statistical characteristic of image and video is different, the existed compression algorithms are designed from the image statistical characteristic and the video statistical characteristic respectively to obtain a better compression performance, such as the newly JPEG2000 standards for image and H.264 for video. However, image and video always require processing in the same system simultaneously in the practical applications. If the system consists of two image and video compression sub-systems, the power consumption, size, weight and cost of the system would greatly increase. Therefore, it becomes more and more important to develop a new compression coding algorithm for both image and video. In this paper, on basis of existed image processing algorithms-JPEG2000 and H.264, we researched the integration of image and video system, and the integration of image and video decompression software program based on embedded wavelet coding is proposed and implementedThe image compression standard JPEG2000 and video compression standard H.264 are introduced respectively, and the integration of image and video compression system proposed by the team before is studied, which includes software compression system, software decompression system and the hardware implementation. In familiar with integrating system on image and video, the author design and implement the efficient decompression software to meet the system requirements, which supports file playback and real-time playing, using multi-thread technology with MFC as a platform.
