Along with the rapid development of the National economy and the great changes in people's living standards, automobile industry has become one of China's pillar industries. It is reported that as the output and sales volume of automobiles reached 13.6448 million in 2009, China has become the biggest car producing and consuming country in the world. Accordingly, parking lots are required to meet the growing demands in numbers and size. In order to meet the needs of daily management, adopting advanced parking lot management system has become indispensible.This paper aims to design and implement a stable and versatile embedded parking lot management system in order to meet the needs of most parking lots. The system consists of two parts:hardware system and software system. This paper mainly discusses the implementation of hardware system.The logical structure of system is firstly planned in this paper. A network-based system architecture is designed for the parking lot management system to meet the most requirements. Secondly the hardware system architecture is discussed. In the hardware system, module mechanism is used, and some communication protocols are adopted between modules if interaction is required, which make the system easier to be maintained and upgraded. The hardware system includes master module, credit card processing module, sense coil module, automatic barrier controlling modules, LED displaying module, voice message prompting module, CAN communication module and Ethernet communication module. In the master module, AT91RM9200 is used as the controller which supported by necessary circuitries to provide RS232, TWI, I2S, SPI, RMII and other interfaces for the communication between other modules and itself. Finally the device drivers are discussed. In the master module, the embedded Linux system is adopted as the system software which is matched by the corresponding Linux device drivers. In the credit card processing module and LED displaying module,51 Single-chip system is used as minimum microcontroller system which communicates with the master module through the serial port.After the preliminary design and implementation, the hardware system checked by running test has basically achieved the intended purpose, which paved the way for the design of application software. And it can aslo stably run for a long time, which ensure the parking lot management to operate completely.
