With the rapid development of communication network technology and VLSI design technology, Embedded system has become the focus of IT. It has been widely applied to many fields including science research, engineering design, military technology, industry and commerce. So in this paper, we design an Embedded system platform.In all kinds of Embedded operating systems, Linux has the advantage of clear structure and open source, so it has been widely used in Embedded system. Because ARM core has many outstanding advantages, such as low power, low cost and so on, more and more semiconductor businessmen and computer businessmen give their big support to ARM. Based on the outstanding advantages of the introduced operation system and hardware platform above, it is certain that the Embedded system is realized by ARM-Linux.This thesis mainly discusses how to design Embedded system based on AT91RM9200 and Linux. Firstly, the thesis specifies the background of the topic, in addition to that, it also includes the semantic of the topic and the work that we will do for the task. Secondly, it researches several typical embedded CPU and operation systems, then chooses ARM and embedded Linux for the platform development. Thirdly, it designs the hardware platform based on AT91RM9200. After that, it tells of the work needed to port Linux to a special platform, including porting U-BOOT, compiling and trimming Linux2.6 kernel, design of Linux device drivers and making filesystem in detail. Finally, it introduces the method of debugging hardware and software in the ARM-Linux Embedded system development.
