The world economy has shifted from industrialized to information-based in an irreversible trend nowadays. In this process, the economic development has a growing need of the information support. Workflow technology emerges on this condition, which makes people focus on internal information that reflects the transfer of related activities and the nature of business processes in order to improve competitiveness of the enterprise. Therefore, workflow technology is gaining a growing attention.Now technologies of process modeling, managing and integrating have matured in workflow technology. But it is still relatively weak to verify workflow process model and performance by the technology of workflow simulation. Workflow simulation can provide an important basis for workflow process analysis and diagnosis, comprehensive access to a variety of operational data and verification of process correctness.This paper is based on National 863 Project "Process-oriented Software Product Line". We design and realize a SynchroFlow-based workflow management simulation tool according to its important sub-project "Research and Realization of Workflow Simulation Technology". The main contributions are as follows:1. We analyze the current status of workflow technology and simulation, and point out the significance of workflow simulation technology.2. We systematically analyze the extended XinPai-driven workflow model from three points such as static description, implementation rules and state description. Then we propose SynchroFlow-oriented supporting models:clock model, resource model, organizational privilege model, event model for workflow model simulation, and analyze the relationship of all supporting models and workflow process model.3. We analyze the structure and performance of workflow simulation, propose the structural and performance indices and establish the basis for workflow model optimization.4. We do a thorough research into some of the key points of workflow simulation:event simulation, resource management simulation, organizational privilege simulation, simulation clock control, activity execution time, random variable generation and scheduling algorithms. On this basis, we can simulate the workflow model created by users, provide a graphical display for process monitoring in execution, and finally show statistical report to simulation makers for simulation analysis and optimization in order to improve enterprise operation process.5. In a word, we propose the architecture of the B/S-structural workflow dynamic simulation tool-SynchroFlowSimulator. Besides, we design and realize this tool.
