Skull and face measure tectnology and morphology research widely used in skull recovery facial morphology and plastic surgery. In this paper, researches the craniofacial data processing, measurement techniques.Based on the theory developped a craniofacial measurement system. It mainly includes followings:1) Skull and face model visualization.Original medical CT data need to be calibrated, filtered.Improved extraction methods to contour the raw data to remove redundant data. Simplified Marching Cubes algorithm and the classical volume rendering algorithm, with visual package VTK to reconstruct skull and face model.2) Craniofacial database construction. Designed and developped a craniofacial database to manage a large number of CT data and 3D models.3) Craniofacial measure technology and morphology statistics.A template-based method of marking feature points applied to large number of craniofacial models. Measures of Euclidean distance, angle, area and surface distance of models by curve integration, some are analysed for statistic. Otsu iterative algorithm-based measurement method by ray of two dimensional soft tissue thichness and the Laplacian-based mehod of soft tissue thickness measurement for volume rendering 3D models.Experiments showing good results.4) Parametric plane analysis of soft tissue thickness. Using cubic interpolation to close the the outer surface of the skull.According to spherical polar, after adjust space coordinate system,Proposed nearest neighbor region divided method to divide data plane.Using this method to parametric plane the closed face and skull.Contrast the pixel gray value between two parametric plane to calculate and analyse soft tissue.5) Craniofacial features measurement system designed.Integrated application, developped a system:Craniofacial morphology measurement system (FaceMea 1.0).
