The skull of a human may remains which buried in the strata for many years,his/her brain's soft tissue already did not exist. When confront a non-information skull,but we have to verify its identity,the first method we may thought is how to recover an approximation of his own appearance befor his death. This requires that we must first find a indicator system which can express the correctly relationship among all parts of skull, facial features and the soft tissue thickness. Only in this way the reconstruction of facial can very close to the former's appearance.This paper proposed a deformable statistical method which based on the surface partition for the craniofacial restoration.According to the standard of craniofacial physical structure,segmented the craniofacial to three regions:the forehead, left cheek and right cheek. The main works are as follows:(1) Segmention for the three-dimensional model:Proposes a Regional division algorithm based on surface for craniofacial model. Through the specific significance's feature points, based on the physiological structure, combined spherical and surface mathematical method for the division of the three-dimensional skull surface model.(2) Establish the trend surface model for the craniofacial forehead, cheeks:For the resone that they have the characteristics of relatively flat and likly to the surface,reprent them as trend surface model.(3) Establish Partition Surface Statistical model:Proposed a Partitioned Surface Statistical Model method for the 3D craniofacial model. compared Partitioned Surface Statistical Models to the Whole Statistical Model, Partitioned Surface Statistical Models has the following advantages:solved the small sample size problem that often encounter in the Whole Statistical Model;Make use of the characteristics of partially dependent between skull and face, we can adjustment the not very satisfied small region.(4) Using a combined of partition and whole face recovery method to reconstruct the unkonw skull.(5) Designed and implemented a combined facial reconstruction system which can be executed by both partition and global reconstruction.
