With the rapid development of economy, the scale of different enterprises is getting larger and larger. Usually one enterprise contains several different departments, which distributes in different regions. Current attendance systems based on fingerprint verification mainly run on single machine or in LAN. Such systems cannot meet requirements of practical applications under the conditions, such as large scale and demand on high speed. On one hand, attendance checking task should be completed in a short given time interval; on the other hand, many enterprises and public institutions are getting larger and larger with large quantity of employees. In such situation, more efficient attendance systems with better performance are deadly in need.In order to solve these problems, this thesis focuses on the research and implementation of attendance system for large scale and high throughout applications based on fingerprint verification. Some techniques such as fingerprint matching, data transfer and data security are well studied. The main contents of the thesis are listed as follows:1. Analysis on the software system requirement and design of attendance system in network environment based on fingerprint verification. We give a detailed description of the requirement of attendance system, and present the design of the system physical architecture, the software architecture and the main functions of the system. In this thesis, we investigated and summarized the requirement of teachers and students in School of Computer and Technology, Shandong University, and used Unified Modeling Language as the modeling visualization tool to analyze the system. To improve the integration and system security of the system, we divide the whole system into three independent modules:the fingerprint identification arithmetic, system function and user interface. The whole system consists of C/S and B/S architectures with MVC designing pattern.2. Research on the key techniques of attendance system in network environment based on fingerprint verification. Fingerprint matching, data transfer and data security are important issues in the design of the attendance system. We conducted a detailed analysis and research on these issues. To solve the main problem faced by fingerprint matching technology in attendance systems for large scale applications based on fingerprint verification, we proposed to complete it in two phases:fingerprint matching in the client and server respectively. The background of usage, the process of matching as well as the solution to some abnormal problems are well researched. The experimental results show that our proposed solutions can well meet the need of attendance system for large scale applications in network environment by selective use of these two matching modes.3. Detailed designing and implementation of attendance system in network environment based on fingerprint verification. Firstly, we give a detailed introduction to the design and implementation of this system. Then we develop the attendance system in terms of the requirements from the view of software engineering. Finally, we test the system at the School of Computer Science, Shandong University.Different from other traditional attendance systems based on fingerprint verification, the attendance system in network environment proposed in this thesis has the characteristics of stable property, faster fingerprint matching speed, friendly user interface and simple operation, etc. Limited by network speed and hardware devices, the matching speed at the server side is slower. So the future work is to upgrade the network devices, improve the server configuration, increase the number of sever units, and test the system further to improve the performance of the system.
