Nowadays society is an information society, the application of internet has reached all fields of life, and people are more dependent on internet in both work and daily lives. Network technologies are becoming more and more important. A large amount of network applications ask for high server qualities. Traditional servers become more and more difficult to meet today's needs because of the limits of CPU, Disk I/O , memory and so on. Therefore, cluster technology becomes a hot subject of research. Cluster technology has high availability, scalability and price advantage. One of the core technologies of cluster is load balancing. Linux Virtual Server project is such a cluster project, which is a load balancing resolution implemented inside the linux kernel, and it has high efficiency. However, the load balancing algorithms that exist now are just simple ones which base on connections, but the applications in reality are more complex, so a new load balancing algorithm is required. This paper at first introduces the structure and realization of linux virtual server, then according to the shortcoming of existing load balancing algorithms, brings forward an improved feedback-based load balancing algorithm. The main tasks are the followings:First, discuss the development state of cluster technology and the project of Linux Virtual Server.Second, analyze the existing load balancing algorithms, the whole framework of the project and the relationship between this module and others.Third, according to the shortcoming of existing load balancing algorithms, bring forward a refined feedback-based load balancing algorithm and this algorithm can reflect the real status of servers'load, then adjust the allocation of server resources on the basis of that.Fourth, test the improved algorithm and experiment it against the existing one, then we can see that the new algorithm has an advantage over it and can arrange the requests of clients more reasonably.
