Wireless mesh network (WMN), as a new technology in network construction, has become the research focus due to its high flexibility, auto-configuration and great mobility. It may be combined with a variety of wireless networks. This thesis studies the WLAN-based mesh network.A real testbed is built to study the performance of the WLAN Mesh network in this thesis. The main question investigated here is the design and implementation of the virtual node module on the testbed.The architecture and related technologies of the WLAN mesh network are, first of all, introduced in this thesis. Then, a design scheme of the WLAN mesh testbed for performance testing is presented, and the method of how to realize the testbed in its logical components is also discussed in detail. In order to enlarge the scale of the testbed, a virtual node module is added on it. The advantages of this method lie in lowering the cost of building the testbed, and more importantly, in its better technological prospects. Therefore, the design and implementation of the virtual node module are introduced in detail in Chapter 4. Finally, some relevant experiments are made on the testbed, proving its various functions.
