With Internet technological development, our lives turn to be more convenient because of heterogeneous network but it also appeares in many defects such as non- compatibility, so it is very necessary that we would develop a multi-protocol gateway.Two wireless systems of WLAN and Buletooth with their related technologies are mainly studied in this thesis,an Multi-protocol wireless gateway is designed to make both WLAN and Bluetooth access to Internet at the same time. For the WLAN part of the gateway,it is achieved by the protocol mechanism and driver of the Linux kernel network architecture, develop data conversion module and data forwarding module to transfrom 802.11 protocols into 802.3 protocols,and WLAN enable access the Internet by Ad-hoc mode.As the Bluetooth part of the gateway,there's no ready-made mechanism in Linux architecture to make it access to Internet,so a comprehensive analysis of the TCP/IP and Bluetooth protocol stack is done in this thesis,and an application software NAP on that base is also made by using socket communication.The software can make a connection between the node in the Bluetooth network and the node on the Internet.At the end of this thesis,an Multi-protocol gateway system is set up in the actual test environment to make both WLAN and Bluetooth access to Internet at the same time,the result confirms that the design of the Multi-protocol gateway in this thesis is correct indeed.
