With the rapid development of pharmaceutical sciences, one-drug-one-target lock-and-key model is increasingly showing its limitations. Scientists began to explore drug combinations for better clinical efficacy and safety, especially in cases of complicated and refractory diseases such as cancer and AIDS. To facilitate this line of research, we collected related data from multiple sources, including PubMed, FDA Orange-Book and DrugBank, made classifications of proven drug combinations, and built a database DCDB (Drug Combination Database) to help indexing this knowledge. The website used JavaServer Faces framework to build the presentation layer and Java Persistence API to deal with object-relational mapping. Oracle DBMS was used to manage data. JChem and Marvin Sketch Applet, provide structure similarity search function. BLAST search functions were also implemented. With friendly user interfaces and versatile searching functionalities, DCDB became a nice tool for analyzing mechanisms of drug combinations and summarizing patterns of beneficial drug interactions.
