In recent years, the application of simulation technology to solve problems of technology, production, and social cases is very popular. One of the important applications is in terminal handling technology, production and modern management, providing decision support for the design, investment, production and management of terminal.Generally, highly automated handling system on ore terminal is a very complex logistics system. It requires designers have rich experience in the work pattern and technology. Only if they are integrated in the design that it can meet the requirements of design and the construction investment can be saved as much as possible to reduce the terminal's operation expense. However, various design options often have large gaps. Therefore, it has great significance to set up computer models of the ore terminal handling system, analyze and optimize it to obtain the theory allocation of the program to guide the practical work.Firstly, the paper reviews the domestic and abroad researches on the development of handling process system on ore terminal, describes the ore terminal handling machinery and types of handling technology. Then the paper introduces the modeling methods and strategies of dynamic systems in discrete event.Secondly, the paper discusses the handing system on ore terminal, find out the operation flow of logistics systems and technical parameters. Via system analysis, divides the system into seven modules, the simulation model of handling system on ore terminal based on queuing theory is built with simulation software WITNESS, and verify the simulation model.Thirdly, under the premise of the handling system's equipment configuration, scheduling principles and yard stockpiling capacity are fixed, change the throughput of ore terminal, run the models in turn, determine the terminals' maximum through capacity according the actual constraints, which is between 16 and 17 million tons. Analyze the sensitivity of a variety of typical handling machines' efficiency with the changes of the throughput.Finally, considering the belt systems and machine configuration, in accordance with data parameters such as the objective cost of handing process, constraints and the corresponding distribution, build a optimization model of the working process system, simulate and optimize it with the setting method of optimization, using simulation software Witness's Optimizer. At last find out the belts and unloading machines' best configuration of the terminal. Then verify the optimized program.
