Nowadays the technology of computer network is developing rapidly and Internet applications have been spread to many areas all over the world. As a kind of new application based on Internet, web service has drown a lot of concern because of its low coupling, ease of use, high reusability and composability. With the development of E-commerce, cross-enterprise applications are getting more and more complicated. Single web service can not meet the requirements of complex business any more. Therefore, how to compose web services with different business functions shared on the Internet according to certain business process logic to realize more reliable, flexible and valuable composite services is now a burning question in both industry and academia. As a result, service composition execution engine, which is the core of web service composition system, is bound to be research focus.This paper designed and implemented a KPN based web service composition execution engine. It aims at solving a series of important problems such as scheduling, implementation, monitoring and management during service composition running. After the composite service process has been deployed on the execution engine, the engine will invoke all constituent services according to the sequence defined by business process. The engine's efficiency and reliability determined the efficiency and performance of the whole composite system directly.This paper researched deeply on web service, service composition and process network model and analyzed the domestic and foreign research results of related technologies. On this basis, a KPN based web service composition execution engine and its framework were designed. Also, the invocation mechanism of the execution engine and its scheduling algorithm was provided. Major function modules of the engine are implemented in this paper, including document parser implement using DOM4J and service interaction APIs implemented adopting Java RMI and Java multi-thread technology. Researches of this paper have important theoretical and practical significance for realizing web service composition.
