With the rapid development of imaging technology and the constant update of image processing, the technology of image tracking has been widely applied in the military domain, such as reconnaissance, weapon guidance, and so on. Also, there is a broad application prospect of this technology in the civilian area. For example, it can be used in navigation or intelligent transportation system. Compared with other conventional tracking mode, it has many characteristics of direct-viewing, real-time, high precision, strong anti-electronic interference ability and so on.The paper first describes a scheme of the image tracking system based on the architecture of DSP+FPGA, the hardware design of some crucial modules in the system, and the logic design of the key FPGA modules at the front-end and back-end of the system. To enhance the applicability of the system, it secondly presents an improvement scheme for this framework, which fully makes use of the excellent performance of FPGA in order to improve the performance of the system. At last, it also describes a simulated target generator which is used to test and evaluate the performance of a tracking system. The generator can generate kinds of simulated target for testing through the FPGA programming. As the test device of a tracking system, it has good performance in programming, versatility and mobile state control.
