In recent years the rapid development of display technology for all to see, flat panel displays have replaced CRT in the display market. With the increasing popularity of the flat panel display devices, people are paying more attention to the quality requirements, while the movement is constrained by the motion artifact. Therefore, it will be very important and practically significant to have a better understanding of motion artifacts and to build an assessment system of motion artifacts.The current campaign for analysing the flat-panel displays' artifacts is mainly focused on the evaluation of the response time. But as the research has become deeper, it is clear that the constraint of response time is only one part of the influencing factors. In this article these influencing factors will be deeply discussed, mainly on the response time, color synthesis elements, the the showing manner of displays and the role human eye playing in the system. Some technologies which can improve the quality of displays have been proposed by analysing those factors.Analysis of motion artifacts is the first step in this research project, and how to get better results needs data which can be compared with others to support. In this subject, two system have been designed, a direct testing system which can be divided into fast spectrometer test system and tracking test systems and a simulation method. Direct testing system includes imaging systems and fast spectrometer system in order to achieve convenient test and high speed response. Simulation testing system, which simulates the tracking contrail of eye while watching moving pictures, is proposed to reduce the complexity of system.After the preparation of the experimental system, a unified evaluation method is needed as an effective basis for analysis. The evaluation methods is progressively discussed here, including the extend time, motion picture response time and perception blur time . This is a step by step in-depth discussion in the area of obtaining accuracy of the testing result and getting a reference value results.Obtain the relevant experimental data by using the above systems, and get a contrast results between it and subjective test results. According to the analysis, we can get a valuable results and prove these design is in a good situation.
