Traditional digital video surveillance systems based on PC, image acquisition cards and storage devices are limited to a specific range of applications, because they are bulky, high power consumption and expensive. While Embedded Network Video Surveillance System has been applied widely in security-monitoring system, smart home and other fields, as a result of its low-price, portable and other superior features. This paper designed an Embedded Network Video Surveillance System based on S3C2440/Windows CE5.0 platform. The paper key research has analyzed the development method of stream interface driver about OV9650 CMOS image senor, designed a network video communication system based on TCP/IP network transport protocol. We improved the efficiency of video transmission for adapting H.263 compression codec algorithm to compress the video data. Meanwhile, I designed a simple video playback software for H.263 video. In order to meet the requirements of small volume, portable, low-cost, we designed a hand-held video display terminal based on S3C2440\Windows CE5.0 platform. This system integrates various technologies, such as image data acquisition, network communication, H.263 encode/decode, video display and replay, etc. It's an organic integration of the three front fields: embedded technology, Ethernet network, video surveillance. As a result of the ARM9 single-chip control scheme, the system is highly integrated, high reliability, low power consumption, low cost, small volume, stable, etc., it can be used in remote surveillance, industrial control, video conference, smart home, and other fields. This scheme also extends the foreground of embedded video surveillance.
