As automatically switched optical network(ASON)has been defined as the next generation universal transport network, the theoretical and technological research on hierarchical ASON becomes one of the key topics recently. This thesis presents and implements the model of the OSPF based on GMPLS. At the same time, through theoretical analysis of the routing protocol in hierarchical ASON, an improved topology aggregation scheme is proposed, which shows better performance by simulation.This thesis is organized as follows:Under the deep study of OSPF based on GMPLS, designs and implements the functions of the OSPF protocol including adjacent relations maintenance, LSA flooding and the LSA database maintenance.Focus on the key points in the design of the routing protocol in hierarchical ASON, a design flow is proposed.A kind of improved topology aggregation algorithm suitable for hierarchical wavelength routing optical networks is proposed based on the analysis of several common kinds of aggregation algorithm. Simulations with randomly-generated networks show that topology information compression can be achieved with a little loss of its accuracy. Results also indicate that the advantage of this algorithm is also behaved on reducing the amount of link-state-advertisement messages and making networks less vulnerable to the propagation delay of these messages over communication links.
