During this period, the traditional epigraphy begins to take a prosperous look and achieves fruitful results, after Yuan and Ming Dynasties' relative silence. So Gu Yanwu is the forerunner and master of epigraphy in Qing Dynasty, making great contributions for the development of epigraphy in Qing Dynasty.Gu Yanwu visits inscription on-the-spot and research traditional literature, becoming the beginner of Epigraphy Research in Qing Dynasty. GuYanWu communicated with scholars such as Fushan, Dai Tingshi, Caorong, Wang Hongzhuan and others, exchanging of the inscriptions. They expanded the scope of communication and transmission of inscription materials, and amalgamate the academic development of North and South China. Gu Yanwu is diligent about writing. His works about Epigraphy including of Jinshiwenziji of six volumes, Qiugulu of one volume and Shijingkao of one volume are very famous. Moreover, there are results of Epigraphy research in Rizhilu, Shandongkaogulu and other works.Shijingkao is a specialized work about Shijing research of all dynasties. Gu Yanwu extracts literature about Shijing from various academic works by early people, such as Wang Yinglin's Kunxuejiwen, Hongkuo's Lishi,Dongyou's Guangchuanshuba and historical books of the past, and writes a comprehensive introduction about Shijing. WanSiTong's Shijingkao and HangShiJun's Shijingkaoyi are under the influence of Gu Yanwu to study Shijing. Special works about the study of Shijing whose amount comes to more than 30 in Qing Dynasty, are written after the two works. Gu YanWu is the initiator to summarize the writing of early scholars and write into Shijingkao.Qiugulu records the inscriptions and his studies and interpretations. Jinshiwenziji records the names of inscriptions and his interpretations. Styles of Description of Qiugulu and Jinshiwenziji are catalogues, contents record and interpretations. The three books of Shijinglao, Qiugulu and Jinshiwenziji have their special characters in academic, and they complement and supplement each other, thus they constituted an organic body. The three books reflect Gu Yanwu's comprehensive achievements and overall level in the inscription literature research.Gu Yanwu mainly uses research methods of proving inscription with inscription and proving epigraphy literature with traditional literature to confirm the value of inscription literature.
