Analysis Of Archive Description Standards In The Network Environment

With the development of information technology and the explosive growth in the amount of information, how effectively the development and utilization of archival information resources, to provide users with high-performance file services for the department become the primary problem need to be resolved . Archival arrangement and description are an effective means to solve this problem, and only description in the job standardization, creating of highly efficient EAD finding aid in order to meet the requirements of the development and utilization of resources. "Guide to the United States Archives and Manuscripts", MARC AMC, EAD represents the different times archival description standard, EAD breaks the space-time constraints for the network environment to share information resources and to communicate information. EAD is useful to national archives standardized job for reference.The thesis briefly reviewed the domestic studies on EAD standard, summed up the history of the development of archival description standards and EAD standards,then elaborated the main body:1.EAD and its related concepts: EAD is the model expression of the contents of the archive finding aid, forms and other parts of the structure , its essence is SGML and XML files at the application of archive field, meaning that use of XML to create the markup languages in the field of archive. At the same time introduce concepts of markup , SGML, XML and so on, in order to facilitate understanding of the full text of the reader.2.The functions and characteristics of EAD: description the archival information resources, providing background information, enhancing search efficiency, maintenance of information security and promoting the function of the sharing of resources are the functions of EAD; and compare with other archive description standards , EAD has the characteristics of multi-level description, in support of the full text of description, practical features and strong search capabilities;3.The elements and properties of EAD: main introduction elements of of the EAD header , front matter , and the archive description ,the property and the main types of format;4.The encoding essentials of EAD: based on the analysis of EAD document instance, put forward the encoding essentials of implementation by use of EAD, and briefly introduced some tools may be possible used in the course of description, including the tools of production , the tools of release, the tools of retrieval and the tools of knowledge;5.The implementation of EAD encoding: Apply project management theory and the basic idea, to build the process of EAD encoding, including project preparation stage, the project implementation stage, and the project appraisal stage;This thesis applies project management theory and the basic idea, to build the process of EAD encoding,that is the creation of the thesis. Based on collecting, investigations and researches, the author thoroughly used the principles and methods of Archive, Management and Computer science , to research and analyze the EAD standard . The author hopes that it is useful to research and analyze the archive description standards of our country.
