H.264 is a new generation video compression standard and developed by ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) together with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) with adopting the new technology. It is higher compression bit ratio than any other compression standard and better network performance so that it can transmission stable and reliable. H.264 adopt a large number of the video compression techniques, the video compression performance is greatly improved, but the encoding algorithm is more complexity which will limit the application of H.264, especially in real time video coding. So Fast prediction Algorithm in H.264 is a very hot issue.Firstly, this thesis studies the compression principle of video, compression techniques, image quality evaluation and video compression standards.Then studies the H.264 standard, including the structure of codec, the compression techniques of H.264, profile and level. The main body of this thesis studies fast prediction algorithm in H.264.(1)This thesis proposed a fast intra prediction algorithm based on the measurement of prediction direction. According to measurement of the current 4×4 block's mode predication direction and usage of correlation between neighboring blocks and neighboring prediction direction, we pick up several current 4×4 block's mode predication direction in order to reduce the computation of predication direction then compute them. The results of experiment show: the proposed algorithm improve encoding efficiency while keeping PSNR almost unchanged.(2)This thesis proposed a fast inter predication algorithm based on the Statistical characteristics of video and CBP. According to reduce the motion estimation and the inter predication mode to improve encoding time. The results of experiment show: the proposed algorithm can improve encoding efficiency while keeping the quality of encoding.Lastly, optimize the code of JM; this thesis design and implement the H.264 encoding filter based on directshow.
