High-frequency stability of semiconductor lasers have a wide range of applications in a series of basic research and development of high-tech products such as atomic spectroscopy, high-resolution spectroscopy, quantum metrology, optical fiber communications, laser measurement and laser atom cooling. Frequency stabilization of semiconductor lasers have great significance. Measurement of frequency stability for the characterization of laser frequency stabilization degree also has a certain amount of research value.Laser frequency is about 1014~1015HZ, direct measurement of laser frequency stability is very difficult. Theoretical analysis showed that the laser frequency stability and the beat frequency stability is in the same. In this paper, a measuring instrument is designed based on relative measurement of the semiconductor laser frequency stability making use of the beat technology. First of all, the use of acousto-optic modulator on the laser frequency, resulting in a certain frequency difference of the two-beam light through optical mixing device, "beat" technology are used to transform difficult-measured high-frequency laser into a relatively low-frequency optical beat signals, and then use photoelectric detectors into electrical signals, photoelectric detection circuit are designed for amplification, filtering, pulse conversion. The relative frequency stability is gained after data processing using Allan variance based on LPC2214 ARM7 TDMI experimental system hardware platform.Through experiments that we developed the measurement system is measured quickly, showing an intuitive, easy to operate, making convenient, low cost, accurate, high precision and so on. Therefore, the measurement system has a certain practical value, can be widely used in the performance of semiconductor laser stability test, may also apply to some of the other laser frequency stability tests.
