As a network technology on the cutting edge,Mobile IPv6 has an extensive application prospect and enormous commercial value.However,before pushed into practical application,it has several aspects to be improved among which the performance optimization is the current researching hotspot.It is far from enough to study the performance from the protocol itself and the most intuitionistic and convincing way is experiment.In this research,we used NS-2,a discrete event simulator for network research,to set up a fairly complicated WLAN-based Mobile IPv6 experiment environment . We observed network performance parameters such as instantaneous bandwidth,handoff latency,packet loss,end-to-end delay,channel throughput and signaling load from the viewpoints of a single node and the whole network respectively.The rules and related reasons of their variety were also analyzed and a policy of route optimization was advanced.This article makes further research and discusses mainly in the following aspects:1.In view of the lack of the research on Mobile IPv6 network performance at home and abroad at present,combined with the availability of network emulation software,and it proposed application prospects and commercial value to study Mobile IPv6 network performance and expounded the basic principles of Mobile IPv6 and its fast handoff technology.2.At the basic of research required,it use Windows XP+Cygwin as the operating system platform,select NS-2 software as network emulation software and use Mobile IPv6`s protocol expansion module-MobiWan formed a emulation platform. At the same time it built a network topology emulation environment structures,definitely including the determination to the way of mobile node`s movement,how to choose data flow and experimental assumptions` made and so on.3 . It give some of the representativeness of Mobile IPv6 network performance parameters , in the built environment emulation platform ,separately it corfigured the main corresponding experiment parameters for network performance to carry out experiment. Finally it obtained the experimental results and analysized the change rules. Accordingly,it propose a routing optimization strategy which minimal impact on mobile IPv6 network performance.Through the experiments and analyses , we discovered the double bandwidth phenomenon and packet loss and made the following conclusions:Packet loss has relation with not only the handoff latency,but also the handoff type.Route optimization may lead to a higher handoff latency and packet loss.The up-layer traffic may have impact on the handoff behavior of the mobile node.The signaling load of Mobile IPv6 will not impropriate too much network bandwidth generally.
