With the development of Intelligent Building and the emergence of intelligent district, people have accepted the efficient and comfortable working and living environment brought about by Intelligent Building and I(?)telligent Community. At the same time, the reliability and convenience of intelligent system has also been required higher.As an important part of intelligent building, the functions of access control system have been beyond the simple door and key management for a long time. It has gradually developed into a complete access control system, which plays a great role in the security of working environment and management of personnel attendance.Traditional access control system usually uses 8-bit or 16-bit Microcontroller to complete the access controller. Because of the constraints of speed, interface and performance, it is difficult to meet the control demand of multi-door and network. ARM Company provides 32-bit embedded RISC microprocessors with high speed, low power consumption and system cost, high performance and specific Thumb instruments. And Linux has the features of reducing kernel and open resource code while supporting ARM technology. So this paper selects the embedded platform both Linux and ARM9.The first chapter summarizes the basic situation of this research. Chapter II introduces the overall design of the access control system and ARM9-based embedded development platform structures. Chapter III described the establishment for the ARM9-based embedded development environment.Chapter IV, V, and VI introduce the research and design of the serial communication module between the controller and card reader, ethernet driver module, embedded audio module.
