Research On The Improvement Of Testing Visibility For Human Resource Information System Of The General Administration Of Customs

Testing management had ever posed a serious problem in a number of major software development programs in which I was involved. In most of these programs testing management was carried out in a manual fashion, covering the writing of test requirements and test case, test execution and tracking. For the test management personnel, the whole test process lacks visibility. Owing to a number of factors, defects time and again crop up in the course of test management and files maintenance and it is hard to keep track of the defects in time. Also, it is difficult for test execution to make a statistical analysis of the test case coverage, and for test case to calculate the coverage of test requirements, etc. This kind of disorderly management mode, which is hard of keep track of, often resulted in chaos in software test in latter phases, made it difficult for the test management personnel to conduct test analysis and, in turn, renders it impossible to control the specific situations in the course of test and the progress of the test. All this combines to make it all the more difficult for software-version upgrade, for defects management to proceed and seriously affect the quality of the test and the software itself in the end.In view of all these problems, I, as software test manager in the Human Resource Information Management System of the General Administration of Customs, put forward the idea of using test management auxiliary tools to facilitate software test management, in the context that we are severely shorthanded in test personnel and are therefore unable to increase our total workload dramatically. This is attempted at increasing visibility of test management, strengthening timely keeping track of defects, promoting test execution's statistics of test case coverage, test case's statistics of the coverage of test requirement and eventually resolve the problems mentioned in the previous paragraph.In this thesis, I describe in detail the visibility problem in program test management and discuss why test management auxiliary tools should be introduced to have the problem settled. I also dwell on the way to write and manage test requirement, how test requirement should respond to software requirement, statistical analysis of software requirement's coverage. In addition, this thesis deals with the ways of test case writing and management, test case's statistics of test requirement's coverage, how to record the implementation of the test process. This dissertation also covers test implementation's statistical analysis of test case's coverage, the method of keeping track of defective state and its definition, the scope in which the test management auxiliary tools are applied, and how to manage the test in conditions in which the auxiliary tools are not suitable.Finally, the operation of the Human Resource Information System of the General Administration of Customs proves that my optimization of visibility in test management works well. It makes defects management more timely and accurate. At the same time, it enables the test manager to control the real going on of test and its progress. It is of significance to the management of version's upgrade. After test management optimization methods are applied, the quality of software test and the quality of the software itself are improved significantly.
