The Researching And Implementation On CMMB Coverage Measurement System

With the rapid development of information technology and telecommunications industry, mobile digital TV has become the focus of attention as an emerging multimedia service. Mobile digital TV provides digital TV broadcasting services to mobile phone and other mobile multimedia terminals to meet the users' needs of receiving TV program.China mobile multimedia broadcasting (CMMB) is a mobile multimedia broadcasting standard which is independently developed by China, and China has the full independent intellectual property rights of CMMB.The CMMB's radio signal is sent via satellite and terrestrial broadcasting.In the signal's coverage area, users can receive news, information, and entertainment TV programs on mobile terminals, such as mobile phone, PDA, MP3, MP4, notebook computers, and terminals on ships or cars.2008 Beijing Olympic Games provided a good opportunity for CMMB's development. In order to meet the users' demand of "anytime, anywhere to watch the Olympic Games", the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) have completed the construction of CMMB networks in 37 cities during 2008. In the process of those networks' construction, the measurement of CMMB signal's coverage gave the data supporting for optimization and adjustment of those networks.This paper will introduce the design and implementation methods of the CMMB signal's coverage measurement system. The artical will disscuss the way of transferring data between personal computers and measurement devices using USB, GPIB, or serial port. It will also describe the application of Geography Information System (GIS) in the CMMB signal's coverage measurement. The measurement system described in this paper has been widely used in the CMMB signal's coverage measurement.
