Great changes have been made in the modes and means of operation under the Modern high-tech condition, which demands new development in the theory and approaches in the researches of the war system. The complex adaptive theory, and a complex adaptive system based on the theory of multi-agent system modeling methods flourish in recent years and open up a new line of thought for information warfare research. This article studies the operation mode based on multi-agent system and researches on the following four aspects.First, with the complex adaptive systems theory as the theoretical basis and based on the properties of the war system, the article comes up with the idea that the war system is a complex adaptive system. With an analysis of the unique characteristics of information warfare, a special complex adaptive system, the article studies information warfare with the adaptive systems theory as its theoretical foundation. Besides, multi-agent system and genetic algorithm are briefly introduced in this part.Second, several multi-agent modeling tools for studying land warfare were enumerated. Based on the multi-agent system operation model, a probe was made to the modeling thoughts, modeling methods and supporting ideas with a focus on the EINSTein system. Besides, the article also explained the modeling description, parameter setting of the EINSTein system in simulated land warfare and the way of strength optimizing problem based on genetic algorithm.Third, for the hot problems of nonlinear, optimal network structure the best strength scale, and tactical options and optimization in the information warfare research, respective models were set up and simulation results analyzed and further studied. Fourth, a typical case of information warfare, the outflanking tactics of the Digital Armored Regiment, was constructed. With the application of the modeling method in this study, an operation model of this case based on the multi-agent system is also set up. Besides a comparative analysis of the three operation strategies was made through simulation experiments and therefore an in-depth study of the outflanking tactics of digital troops was also made.Although the article didn't come up with a perfect model for questions like macro command and control, a reasonable simulation of operations within the scope of local tactical combat was set up. The article comes to the conclusion that with the advantage of its intelligent modeling, operation simulation based on multi-agent system is still promising in development and will be sure to reflect the acts of modern warfare more vividly and reveal the rule of information warfare.
