In recent years, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River sand mining has been in a state of hard management. Middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze river is broad in scope, and the locations of sand stolen are too many, but sand mining regulatory and law enforcement ranks are understaffed, so a considerable number of illegal sand mining is difficult to find out and dealt with. The illegal sand mining management could not be "grasping at the scene, grasping the existing" and quickly stopped and dealt with. In practice there is a problem to find and save the evidence in the process of law enforcement.This thesis designed sand mining ship carried monitoring system is designned and developed for the actual project required. By analysing of the current problems in sand mining and law enforcement arising in the process, making use of Intel XScale architectured PXA270 processor as the core hardware system, and transplanting embedded Linux as the operating system, and combining with GPS, CDMA, wireless bridge, the cameras equipment and so on, constructs the remote monitoring system.This paper firstly recommends the developed background and the related technology, which includes embedded system technology, GPS technology, CDMA technology, Network Management etc. Secondly, it puts forward the blue print and introduces the embedded system concept, and introduces the whole function and structure of ship carried monitoring. Thirdly, it details the system platform and hardware, mainly the hardware system's selection of MCU and each module's electric circuit designned. Fourthly, it goes into the system platform operating system transplantation, which contents modification of the Boot Loader, reduction of the Linux kernel, building up of the root file system and so on. Then it introduces the application program, which covers the multithread programing in Linux operating system, series port communication, communication protocal design and reading the received received signal strength from the wireless bridge in the system. Finally, it gives the test data of the system. This paper has finished all the functions of the project, which applied embedded system application technology, Linux operating system, Network Management technology and so on, and now it has been tested running in the sand mining ship in the E and GAN common boundary of Yangtze River and received an excellent feedback.
