2D display technique has shown quite common, and Stereoscopic technology has been developed greatly in recent years. Low-cost and easy-to-implement stereo display system is the major orientation in stereo display development today. Stereoscopic technology based on polarized light system (SPS) has become popular with the advantages of rich-colored and vivid images of depth perception. However, SPS is difficult to promote in home and teaching fields as the cost of stereoscopic device for commercial application is very high, the stereo video source is hard to get, and software also has some functional defects.Firstly, the history and details of stereoscopic display technology are introduced in this paper. Secondly, the advantages of SPS are proposed by analyzing the principles and characteristics of two other stereoscopic displays methods. Thirdly, a solution of stereoscopic display is presented based on SPS. Stereo video is acquired by home video camera. Computers, projectors and polarized sheets are the major components in hardware platform. Stereo video player, stereo transform filter based on DirectShow and NVIDIA technology are included in software system. The remarkable property of this stereoscopic display solution is low cost and easy to realize. Rich-colored image and vivid depth perception were obtained via long time test on our stereoscopic system. SPS can be widely used in home and teaching fields with low cost and easy realization. Finally, Autostereoscopic Display is also one of the major directions in stereo display development with no glasses and assistant device needed for watching. A video used in Autostereoscopic Display was produced with 3d Max Renderer developed by Superd Company. Perfect stereoscopic image was generated as it was played in the Autostereoscopic Display system. Both of the stereoscopic systems referred above can be used widely in home and college physics demonstration teaching fields. They can help students deepen the understanding of polarized light theory, gating imaging process, and stereoscopic imaging.
