With the rapid development of computers, electro-optical elements, and lasers in the last few years, three dimensional (3D) profile measurements of objects using coded structured light method have increasingly developed in industry. The kind of method has the features of low requirement of the environment, various choices of the light patterns, high precision and large measurement range. At present, it has applications in many areas such as Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing, Reverse Engineering, industrial inspection and Virtual Reality.The focus of this thesis is on the key technologies of coded structured-light 3D measuring system, the preliminary study about 3D measurement using coded structured light method is carried out. The main work is as follows:1. According to system characteristics, a simple calibration method is proposed. With only a coplanar reference target that is free to move, it can be used to calibrate the CCD, Projector and the position of them.2. A new approach for lens distortion calibration is presented for the projector of the measurement system , which utilizes the cross ratio invariability of perspective projection. The calibration processing only needs a coplanar reference target, and the distortion coefficient can be given the solution.3. Based on the system operational principle, the functional modules of system software are accomplished, and the principle of each module is explained. The experimental results show that system performance is good.4. The experiments are carried out. The practical experiments are based on the points, plan, column, plastic bottle and face mask. The practical experiment verifies the feasibility and availability of this structured light 3D measurement system.5. Both accuracy of the measurement system and the main factors related to improving it have been analyzed. The code structured light based on measurement approach plays an important role in the optical measurement.
