Entertainment robot is a promising new force in the filed of robot, which is emphasized Human-computer Interaction and user's emotional experience so that the owner has the characteristics of physical and mental pleasure. Chess robot is one of entertainment robot. In this paper, a man and robot face to faee Chinese chess-playing system is introduced. Not only can it play chess with the elderly for the elderly excluding loneliness, but also play chess with children for children's development of intelligence. If applied to teaching, it can cultivate a love of science and technology among our young people, and it also promotes the Chinese Chess, which is a fine and unique traditional culture of the Chinese Nation.In the process of designing, serial communication teclmology, Designing technology of VC++ Program and technology of controlling muliti-servos by AVR single chip are used. One of the features of the Chinese-chess robot system is the introduction of a self-designed electronic chess board system by which the task of scanning and recording chess game can be done.We study and has realized a method of controlling multiple servos by the PWM signals produced by microcontroller of ATmega16 using simulation method. By this method we can control the robot arm. In serial communication module, we designed a USB/RS232 converter in the circuit and realized a serial communication class by using windows API function in software. Using serial communication module we can complete the mission of communication in the system. Because of friendly interfaces in the module, it can also be used in anther system for serial communication.At present, Chinese chess game software has been to some extent developped and many of the famous chess game software have reached the level of expert. But on the applications of game-playing, only software is not enough, we need a robot system can game with man face to faee and by reason of this the paper presents the design which is valuable to the research of muti-joint robot and game-playing robot.
