As robot developing, it has evolved into many types of robots, and quickly popularized from the industrial areas to other areas. The intelligent robots will also increasingly become a mainstream of our future society and permeate to every aspect of our lives. As technology advances, as well as the further expansion of market space, the popularity of robots, especially family entertainment robots, will be accelerated. So we chose chess playing robot, a family entertainment robot, as our research topics. We hope to design a small, low cost, performance moderate chess playing robot, so it can be used in our everyday life.In this paper, we chose embedded system as a development platform, and use low-power, high-performance embedded ARM processor, game algorithm to design an entertainment robot that can play renju with people. In programming, we have adoptedμCOS-Ⅱreal-time operating system, thus simplifying the programming process, and let the system have a good expansibility.According to our survey, at present, it is unusual to design chess robot using the method of combining of embedded system with intelligence algorithm. Therefore, we hope to provide a design method of this type entertainment robot. This paper had finished the prophase development of the chess playing robot, and prepared for the design of a real chess playing robot.
