In recent year, the development of CAD/CAE integration and computer artificial intelligence techniques has greatly changed the ways of the product design and manufacture. Feature-based modeling and data sharing are the key techniques in integrated modeling and analysis. Generally, multi-resolution modeling methods are based on grid model. According to the final geometry information, the model is simplified. However the simplified model is inconsistent with the design and analysis requirements, which results in failure to model reuse and data sharing.A new CAD/CAE integrated approach is proposed by a feature based multi-resolution modeling system to solve above problems. Based on the model complexity and the relation between feature sets, the system acquires the feature model in different levels of detail by choosing different feature sets and sets computation. Taking the inter-dependent relationship among the design features into account, features should not be arbitrary independently inhibited. The semantic feature modeling technique based on cellular model is proposed to solve these problems. According to analyzing the reason of feature dependence generation, the topological objects of product model is constituted by one or more cells, then the features can be arbitrary inhibited in term of requirement, which will be in favor of reusing the model. The dissertation also supports feature sharing database to create and analyze the data. Both the CAD model at different levels and the CAE model at various levels of abstraction are immediately extracted through a selection process by manipulating multi-resolution model tables and LOD/LOA lists in the database.The further study has been applied to HUST-CAID (Computer Aided Industry Design System developed by Harbin University of Science and Technology). The experiments show that this study on the modeling technique has great significance to guide the implement of the concrete modeling system.
