After the reconstruction of the telecommunications industry and the issuance of the 3G license, there are not only unprecedented development opportunities but also fierce competitions in the mobile communications market.Since the major part of the mobile network operators' income comes from VIP users, the network operators are very concerned about the challenges of how to provide personalized services to different user groups of VIP users divided by their characteristics, and how to attract and retain VIP users by detecting and repairing network failures rapidly. As a small but powerful data analysis software, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 has the advantage of easy-using and rapid deployment. It can perfectly meet the requirements of front-line staffs. This paper introduces the process of designing a VIP users' behaviors analysis system with the help of SQL Server 2005, and the platform realization of the system based on actual data. It also gives an example of how to cluster different groups of the VIP users in this platform, and the result shows its accuracy and feasibility.Firstly, this paper describes the purpose and significance of the research, and shows the reasons of implementing the VIP users' behaviors analysis system based on SQL Server 2005. Secondly, the paper introduces the basic theory and principle of data warehouse and data mining technology systematically. It also elaborates the application of data mining in the telecommunications field nowadays. Then, according to the theory research, this paper gives the detailed steps of designing and constructing the VIP users' behaviors analysis system. And it gives two examples of how to solve practical problems based on this system. Finally, the paper describes the research results and some current problems, and discusses the focus of further research in this field.
