Recently, with the rapid development of computer science and wireless communications, advanced wireless mobile technique will be widely applied. So far, most mobile communications need wired foundational instrument. In order to communicate in the areas without fixed base station, a new network technology named Ad hoc network appears. This kind of network does not need the support of wired devices, and makes the communication implemented by the mobile hosts. The appearance of Ad hoc network has widened the implementation of communications in any situation. Also it provides effective solutions for military communications, disaster rescue and temporary communications. The dynamic, variable and multi-hoped topology of mobile Ad hoc network makes itself a robust and effective wireless mobile network. But, because of the characteristics, the management of the network is quite difficult. In recent years, mobile agent technology has provided a new solution to network management, since its mobility and intelligence can greatly improve the flexibility and the performance of NMS.This paper first states the principles of Ad hoc network and points out the differences between other networks and Ad hoc and common ad hoc network management model, then analyses the reasons why mobile agent apply to cable network management and the application of mobile agent in network management, then analyses the advantages of application of mobile agent in ad hoc network management based on ad hoc characteristics. After that proposes a scheme of the Ad hoc network management with mobile agent and snmp and make a comparison with anmp. At last, design and implement performance and fault management based on this architecture, then discusses some research directions .
