With the rapid development of Smart Home since the 21st century, sorts of products of domestic and foreign Smart Home were designed to meet the residents'demands with respect to the residential security, comfort, convenience, efficiency , energy- saving and so forth. Meanwhile, however, different products of Smart Home may perplex the smart home system by involving distinctive software and hardware resources, various home networks based on different protocols and operation systems. So this fact makes it difficult to integrate different products into a smart home. Nevertheless, to make matters worse, diverse and independent technical standards promoted by different organizations and companies aggravated that issue. Therefore, interconnecting different networks and integrating smart home sub-systems could be an urgent problem.Considering the fact that it is impossible to create a brand new network that stands for any smart home networks, the compromising solution might be interconnecting home appliances which have close relationship first and then constructing a complete home network by interconnecting different subnets. This should be the proper way to stimulate the application of home networks in smart homes.This paper did some research on smart home, home network and smart home middleware technology in depth and aimed to find a way to solve smart home integration problem. Basing on analyzing the difficulty in integrating different network protocols in smart home system, an approach of integrating different networks through middleware was presented. The paper studied Jini and UPnP from the respect of smart home. A comparison was made between UPnP and Jini which both are home network protocols. Deficiencies in the currently existing integrating techniques were analyzed. And an elaboration was given upon how the Jini and UPnP matches the features of smart home in respect to distributed, heterogeneous, dynamic, and open. It then brought up a proposal that integrating these two protocols by OSGi. Subsequently, the paper presents a new creative method to integrate UPnP and Jini service in smart home system by OSGi Collaboration Proxy technique. The concrete content is to seamlessly integrate smart home appliances located in distinct home networks through realizing the OSGi Collaboration Proxy to search for and control two types of different service devices which are Jini service devices and UPnP service device in diverse home networks respectively, and transforming different type of device services in heterogeneous network automatically in home network gateway. In the end, a complete smart home integration solution was presented and one instance of the solution that interconnecting heterogeneous service devices is simulated on computer.To sum up, the solution of integrating smart home system based on OSGi is the one that really fulfilled the characters, which renders the smart home system irrelevant with the exact networks and make the network plug-and-play, and that extraordinarily exploits the advantage of JAVA and OSGi. This solution makes home network a self diagnosis, self maintenance distributed network architecture and settles the smart home system integration problem.
