In engineering and product design, CAD technology is an indispensable design tool. It can store design information and display graphics through computer, and it can also calculate, analyze and compare different design options. Parametric design approach transforms the quota information as the variable, make it adjustable parameters. It can update part models through the assignment of variable parameters, so increased the speed of Model generating and modifying, and have greate value in serialization design, similar design and dedicated CAD system development.Blowout preventer has a complex structure, so the research on its CAD technology is limited to solid modeling and finite element analysis of single model. The research of integration and sedation design based on parametric technology is very rare. This paper made research on the parametric design methods and simulation technology for blowout preventer in accordance with the theory of feature modeling and parametric design technology.This paper analyzed the needs of BOP structure, function and manufacturing processes. Through the comparison of actual working conditions of underwater and surface blowout preventers, put forward a general design method for underwater BOP, and make further structural design and detailed design. It studied the constraint-based parametric design methods, and analyzed the characteristics of main parametric design softwares. In accordance with design requirements of blowout preventer, proposed a parametric method based on feature and procedures using Pro / E secondary development. In Pro / E environment it set up the parametric graphics library, prepared design software using Pro / TOOLKIT and Visual C + +, to realize parametric modeling, structural analysis, data processing and automatic assembly. It studied mechanical motion analysis and structural analysis method, and made validation and analysis for models built by parametric software. At BOP parametric design and simulation example, through the overall structural design, detailed design, assembly for parts, assembly for BOP group, the software achieves the integrated design. And through real-time data processing, it can achieve the function of structural analysis. So it can improve the speed and quality of model design.
