Along with the fast development of computer and communications technology, and the syncretism of 3C (Computer, Communication & Consumer Electronics), home automation and home networking are the future of smart home. The digital home networking will provide us more comfortable and convenient living environment. Now, how to choose the right technology and method to design a system suit our country is a new task.This article describes a remote monitoring system for smart home based on the GSM short message, the system monitor household appliances and home environment. Hardware system is constituted by the ARM platform and sub-system, major software platform based on Linux, supported by graphical interface program, the control command is sent to sub-module by click the touch screen or decoding the short message, the sub-module finish the explanation of control command in order to control home appliances and collect information.First this article introduces the hardware system, which is divided into major module and sub-master module in two parts. Major module use S3C2440 as the core, and connect with the GSM module by the RS232 serial port. Sub-module use AT89C52 as the core, it can explain control command and collect home information, through the RS485 bus connected with the major module.Second this article describes related knowledge of embedded operation systems and basic methods of Linux migration; It outlines the building process of development environment, and discusses the code modifies, kernel cut-off, kernel configure and migration of Linux2.6.13; Then it describes the process of building root file system. The software design describes the process of application program base on embedded systems, that's building Qt development environment in the platform of hardware and software which is mentioned, and developing the application based on Qt. This article describes the process of message decoding and encoding, and gives the flow chart of multi-thread. Sub-module using C language, gives its software flow chart.At last, this article introduces the results of debugging and analysis with home control system, and supplied the solution of questions in the debug.
