Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a kind of new broadband wireless network infrastructure. In other words, it is a distributed wireless networks with high-capacity and high-speed. WMN is a combined results of multi-hop technology (e.g. Mobile Ad hoc network technology) and traditional wireless technologies (e.g. WLAN, WPAN and WMAN). Gradually with the promotion of WMN, especially in the May 12th Earthquake, people put more and more attention on WMN. However, how can manage the self-organized and distributed networks simply and effectively gives us great challenges to the monitoring and management of wireless mesh network.Based on the demand derived from the characteristics of WMN, this thesis has designed a web-based network management platform by using RIA, JSP technologies to demonstrate the effect of fore desk. The application of Java, C and Netlink with Socket, which are used to implement the web services client communications with Linux kernel, and solve the mapping and display of the WMN topology respectively. Installation and control of network node and monitoring devices implement the real-time rendering of the network performance, and comparative analysis of statistics, which provides a reasonable and efficient monitoring and management tool.This thesis firstly introduces the characteristics of WMN and its management demands different from other networks, and then analyzes several possible management protocols for WMN in detail. Based on the comparison of their respective advantages and disadvantages, as well as application occasions of management protocol model, we put forward suggestions for the management. Through the comparison of management model, the system selects WBM (Web-Based Management) system model as a management style, installed a web server suitable for the system, and provided a detailed description of the deploy process of the gateway node in the Linux platform. Meanwhile, in accordance with the characteristics of WMN and the situation of experimental system, the thesis puts forward the system monitoring and management demand, which is divided into six modules, namely, user rights management, network topology management, Mesh node management, statistical analysis of network performance, monitors management and control, database. Chapter IV describes the topology discovery and mapping process and technology implementation in the network in detail. On the basis of selected management models, Chapter V focuses on the management of order processing and information-gathering process and key system technologies and demonstrated the specific implementation process and results of various key functions of management module in detail.Finally, the thesis makes a summary of the work and suggests the further refine and improvement.
