As the key point of all optical-network, Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer can add or drop optical signal of single special wavelength. Based on the requirement about optical add-drop technique of fiber communication and fiber sensor and supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, theoretical and experimental investigations have been carried out on the two main structures: composed of separate components and integrative Fiber Grating Coupler.1. Through analysis of the coupling-mode theory of fiber grating, the parameters of fiber grating which would be used in experiments are simulated.2. Two typical structures of OADM which are composed of separate components are analyzed, the OADM which is based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer and FBG was one of the two structures, and the OADM which is based on circulator and FBG was another. The work principle is studied and the OADM is produced respectively. The test of the whole performance and the experiment of optical add/drop multiplexer are all carried out to test the performance of them.3. It is systemically investigated that Fiber Grating Coupler used as OADM. The technical procedure of FGC is finally determined through trial-manufacture and improvement. The fused-tapered FGC and the polished FGC are produced, and the testing system is built for them to experimentally study.4. The fused-tapered polarization-maintaining FGC is manufactured for the first time, and the results displayed that fiber grating has no effect on the extinction ratio. The FGC still has the property of polarization-maintaining which was no heretofore reported.These researches have important applied value on the fiber communication especially all-optical network. In addition, they greatly impulse the development of dense wavelength division multiplexing of large-scale hydrophone array which has great background of military affairs.
